Stone Soup

"That's OK," said the visitor. "I will make stone soup for everyone."
Then he took a stone and dropped it into a giant pot. (p.4)

Today, I read "Stone Soup". One day, a visitor came to a village. He wanted some food, but the villagers didn't want to serve food to a stranger. So, he said he will make stone soup. He said the stone soup was good, but with carrots, it would be better. So a villager gave him some carrots. He asked other food one by one in this way. Finally, the soup was ready, and it was very delicious. Villagers had a good time with him.
This sounds happy end, but really? There might be a little possibility that the visitor made stone soup to just get food from others. Because Stone is unnecessary! It might be only a tool to attract people. I don't know whether he is a good man or no.
