イメージ
The flying dinosaur flew down to the eggs. It picked up the little dinosaur in his teeth.  "Oh no!" said Biff. "It's going to eat it." She picked up a stick and ran out. "Go away!" she yelled. (p.10-11) Today, I read "Land of the Dinosaurs". This time, the children went to the place where dinosaurs alive. And, can you imagine the scene above? Biff ran toward the big flying dinosaur to save the little dinosaur. That's not the only things she did. She took pictures of a dinosaur with running away from it. At last, she found a film wasn't put in the camera. I laughed many times in this story. Vocabulary yell:叫ぶ、わめく Hunt R.(1987). Land of the Dinosaurs :Oxford University Press

The Broken Roof

Kipper looked uo at the man on the roof. "How did the roof get broken?" he asked "We don't know," said Edward. "It was broken when we woke up." "That's funny," said Kipper. (p.18) Today, I read  "The Broken Roof". One day, Chip and Biff took the little magic house to school. But at that, books fell on to the little house and made a hool in the roof. Fortunately, the magic worked and it took children to their house a long time ago. Surprisingly,  the house also had a hole in the roof. Edward, who was mending it had no idea how the hole was made. Well, this story, it seemed the magic house has links between real world to adventure world. Vocabulary roof:屋根、屋上、最高部 Hunt R.(1987). The Broken House :Oxford University Press

The Stolen Crown Part2

イメージ
"Someone tied string to the window," said Chip. "I think I know how the crown was stolen." (p.6) Today, I read "The Stolen Crown Part2". Although there's part1,  I'll write this part. In the adventure, Biff and Chip were doubted that they stole the crown. But Chip tried to know how the crown stolen and find the real criminal. And this is…. And, they also get the crown back from the men. Now, I think children in this series can overcome however difficult situation and go home safely. They're amazing! Vocabulary string:糸、ひも、弦 Hunt R.(2007). The Stolen Crown Part2 :Oxford University Press

The Treasure Chest

イメージ
The children opened up the chest and looked inside. It was a treasure chest and it was full of gold. (p.26) Today, I read "The Treasure Chest". This time, children went to a special adventure. They went to underwater. Of course, they had masks, flippers and tanks of air. They found a chest, and it was full of gold. But, a shark was coming to children, so they had no choice but to give up the gold and run away. Soon, the magic key began to glow and took them out of the adventure. There may be treasure in somewhere of underwater. I wish I could discover it. Vocabulary chest:胸、貯蔵用の箱 Hunt R.(1987). The Treasure Chest :Oxford University Press

The Elves and the Shoemaker

イメージ
When the clock struck midnight, in came two little elves. Zippity, zip! They made 100 pairs of the fanciest shoes ever seen. Then they danced a joyful jig and left. (p.11) Today, I read "The Elves and the Shoemaker". There were old man and woman who were shoemaker. One day, They bought matterial of shoes and put it on a desk. The next day, There were a beautiful pair of shoes on the desk. They were surprised, and they sold them and bought more matterial of shoes. The next day, this time, there were two pairs of shoes. They wonder why, so in midnight, they watched the desk. And they saw elves making shoes. Their clothes were ragged, so they made new clothes for them. The elves were very happy. In this story, a man and awoman became rich thanks to them. So, both of them were very happy, and this is a very hart-warming story. Vocabulary elf(elves):小妖精、こびと jig:ジグ、6/8拍子の急速度で軽快な踊り Findley V. Rotten Apples

The horse saw the box of apples. It began to eat them. "Oh no!" said Biff. "It's eating all the bad ones." (p.12) Today, I read "Rotten Apples". One day, Biff put all the rotten apples on the grass into a box and she put the box by the dustbin. After a while, a man with a horse and cart came down the street. And the horse ate all the rotten apple in the box. Soon, It started to run very fast, and slowed down. It seems that the  apples made the horse drunk. Didn't the horse notice the apples were rotten? or It didn't care about that? Anyway, I think this is a funny book. Vocabulary rotten:腐った、不潔な、もろい Hunt R.(1994). Stone Soup

イメージ
"That's OK," said the visitor. "I will make stone soup for everyone." Then he took a stone and dropped it into a giant pot. (p.4) Today, I read "Stone Soup". One day, a visitor came to a village. He wanted some food, but the villagers didn't want to serve food to a stranger. So, he said he will make stone soup. He said the stone soup was good, but with carrots, it would be better. So a villager gave him some carrots. He asked other food one by one in this way. Finally, the soup was ready, and it was very delicious. Villagers had a good time with him. This sounds happy end, but really? There might be a little possibility that the visitor made stone soup to just get food from others. Because Stone is unnecessary! It might be only a tool to attract people. I don't know whether he is a good man or no. Einhorn K.(2006). Stone Soup :Scholastic

The Little Red Hen

イメージ
"Who will help me plant this?" she asked. "Not me!" said the dog. "Not me!" said the cat. "Not me!" said the duck. You see, they were all quite lazy. (p.2-3) Today, I read "The Little Red Hen". The little red hen was going to grow wheat and make some bread. She asked other animals for help, but no one helped her. They were lazy. She did all the process alone, and finally she made the bread. The other animal thought they can eat the bread, but the little red hen said they can't eat it. Then, she ate it by herself. So, why other animals couldn't eat the bread? It's very simple. They didn't help her at all. Vocabulary wheat:小麦 Findley V.(2006). The little Red Hen :Scholastic

Kipper and the Giant

イメージ
Kipper came to the village but it was tiny. Kipper was a giant."Oh no!" said Kipper. (p.8)  Today, I read "Kipper and the Giant". Kipper went into the magic house, and when he came to the village, he found he was a giant. Villagers didn't welcome him, but Kipper helped them, so they liked them. After a while, a giant came back. He was always angry so villagers disliked him. But Kipper convinced him not to be angry and be a good giant. So he stopped being angry. Why did a giant follow Kipper's advise? Because Kipper was bigger than a giant. Vocabulary tiny:とても小さい、ちっぽけな Hunt R.(1987). Kipper and the Giant :Oxford University Press

Dolphins!

Can dolphins understand human words? Not really. But scientists have taught dolphins hand signs that stand for words. Dolphins learned words like Frisbee, basket, right, left, over, and under. They learned more than forty words! (p.38) Today, I read "Dolphins!".  This book wrote about the ecology of dolphins, and said they're intelligent and gentle animal. They can learn and memorize many things. In recent studies, they use a kind of whistle to communicate other dolphins. And, every dolphins has a one-of-a-kind whistle, just like the dolphin's name. Now, I feel like seeing dolphins. If I see them someday, I think  I will remember the story in this book. Vocabulary Frisbee:フリスビー Bokoske S. and Davidson M.(1993). Dolphins! :Random House
