Dolphins!

Can dolphins understand human words?
Not really.But scientists have taught dolphins hand signs that stand for words. Dolphins learned words like Frisbee, basket, right, left, over, and under. They learned more than forty words! (p.38)

Today, I read "Dolphins!".  This book wrote about the ecology of dolphins, and said they're intelligent and gentle animal. They can learn and memorize many things. In recent studies, they use a kind of whistle to communicate other dolphins. And, every dolphins has a one-of-a-kind whistle, just like the dolphin's name.
Now, I feel like seeing dolphins. If I see them someday, I think  I will remember the story in this book.

Mystery in London

L.A. Detective

"Len says, 'I don't like you, Blane. I don't want your money. But Carmen is in trouble. She needs help. I'll help her.'" (p. 7)  Lenny Samuel is an L.A. detective. One day a man called Frank came to his office and he took Len to Mr. Blane by force. Mr. Blane is a rich and also a bad man. Recently, his daughter, Carmen has been kidnapped and the suspect demanded a ransom, so he asked Len to save Carmen. Len doesn't like Mr. Blane, but he agreed to help his daughter.   This book is the story of a detective, and I was surprised to the story. In the end, the position of client and suspect exchanged. In fact, the suspect is a very nice person, and the kidnapping was the plan to punish Mr. Blane. I felt it was a short but good story. Prowse, P. (1993).  L.A. Detective . Macmillan Heinemann ELT.

The Red-headed League

"As a rule," said Holmes, "the stranger a thing seems the less mysterious it really is. It is your ordinary crimes which are really mysterious, just an ordinary face is the most difficult to identify." (p. 40)    One day, a red headed-man visited to Holmes's office. He asked him to detect the mysterious organization, "the red-headed league". The client was the member of it, but the league has closed suddenly. As Holmes surveyed this accident, he revealed that this relates to the big crime.  This is the story of Sherlock Holmes. This may be the first time that I read Holmes, but I enjoyed it, and I felt this story is very serious. I wondered that other Holmes's book are also like this story, so I want to read them more.
