Fireball's Heart

"I don't believe that your people tell the truth all the times." (p.12)
   
    One day, the chiefs of two tribes, Strong Buffalo and Wise Owl were talking each other. Dark Eyes who is a chief of Wise Owl said people of Wise Owl always tell the truth. The Chief Strong Buffalo didn't believe it, so he made a bet that if Wise Owl didn't tell a lie in a week, he will give horses to him. One day, Derk Eyes met a woman named Blue Feather. They got along each other, but she proposed that she has an ill. She said she needs Fireball's heart to cure it. Fireball is the most favorite horse of Wise Owl. He finally decided to kill Fireball and gave its heart to Blue Feather. Then, he was in trouble whether he should say this truely or not.
    In the end, he said the truth and the chief Strong Buffalo changed his mind. It seems a good story, but I thought it's bad idea to tell a lie to test his scincerity. Their way irritated me.

Mystery in London

L.A. Detective

"Len says, 'I don't like you, Blane. I don't want your money. But Carmen is in trouble. She needs help. I'll help her.'" (p. 7)  Lenny Samuel is an L.A. detective. One day a man called Frank came to his office and he took Len to Mr. Blane by force. Mr. Blane is a rich and also a bad man. Recently, his daughter, Carmen has been kidnapped and the suspect demanded a ransom, so he asked Len to save Carmen. Len doesn't like Mr. Blane, but he agreed to help his daughter.   This book is the story of a detective, and I was surprised to the story. In the end, the position of client and suspect exchanged. In fact, the suspect is a very nice person, and the kidnapping was the plan to punish Mr. Blane. I felt it was a short but good story. Prowse, P. (1993).  L.A. Detective . Macmillan Heinemann ELT.

The Red-headed League

"As a rule," said Holmes, "the stranger a thing seems the less mysterious it really is. It is your ordinary crimes which are really mysterious, just an ordinary face is the most difficult to identify." (p. 40)    One day, a red headed-man visited to Holmes's office. He asked him to detect the mysterious organization, "the red-headed league". The client was the member of it, but the league has closed suddenly. As Holmes surveyed this accident, he revealed that this relates to the big crime.  This is the story of Sherlock Holmes. This may be the first time that I read Holmes, but I enjoyed it, and I felt this story is very serious. I wondered that other Holmes's book are also like this story, so I want to read them more.
